Making The SHIFT

You’re on a journey. But is it the journey you want? That’s a simple question, but it’s not always easy to answer. A lot of things can stand between where you are now and where you want to go. What is it in your life that is keeping you from achieving all that you want? What do you want? This question is a very big question. Let’s just think about it for a moment, what is it we really want in life? More time, money, or friends? Maybe it’s bigger houses, bigger cars, or bigger toys? But if we really go deep, we will find that it’s not material things that we are looking for, but an emotional feeling that we think these things will give us when we get them. We want a feeling!
• I will be happy when…
• I will “feel” more fulfilled when…
• If “they” would make better choices, my life would be…

Many share the idea that the fulfillment of life is on the outside working its way in, instead of on the inside working its way out. This is where we get stuck. Things happen in life. People will hurt us in one form or another. We will be disappointed at different moments in life. The dreams that we thought would happen by a certain time doesn’t show up and we are tempted to give up. Have you ever been let go from a job that you just knew was going to be your retirement? Have you ever been dumped by a boyfriend/girlfriend for someone else? Have you ever experienced the frustration of someone close to you not doing what you wanted them to do when you wanted them to do it? When these things happened, how did you feel? How did you respond? What was your confidence level?

Moving through your life, have you noticed some of those old emotions and feelings resurfacing? It’s these old emotions that keep us from taking steps forward and achieving the success we were created for. What is keeping us from success? What does success mean to you? Success means so many different things. Are you successful when you achieve your next promotion? Buy your new car, house, bike, vacation home etc? All of this can be a form of success. But is that what you’re truly looking for? First and foremost we must understand that it’s ok to want material things, but to seek material things for the sake of a feeling can be damaging in so many different ways. Things are great, possessions are fine, but what really matters can only be found in the heart of ones emotions.

I have found that most people are looking for more in life...more balance, more peace, more joy, more personal time, more time with their family, and even more clarity in who they are. Some might not even know what that more is. I believe we have everything we need already in us to achieve the more we are looking for; we just need someone to help us rediscover what it is.

Making The Shift Workbook FREE

The SHIFT is a system formulated to help people transition from where they are to where they would like to go. It’s like a five speed transmission moving them forward in life. Getting into gear is the biggest part of the solution. So what is the first gear to making the SHIFT?

1. See: Determining and designing life goals
2. Hear: Establishing and maintaining a system of “self talk” and continued education.
3. Identify: We want to identify the blocks that are preventing forward motion
4. Focused Faith: Establish a core belief system that will help them make better decisions
5. Take A.C.T.I.O.N.: Creating action plans that are aligned with what’s most important to them.

Action and reaction, ebb and flow, trial and error, change - this is the rhythm of living a good life. Out of our over-confidence, comes fear; out of our fear, comes the clearer vision, out of the clearer vision comes fresh hope, and out of hope, comes progress. All change is not growth, as all movement is not forward. All changes, even the most longed for, have their gloom; any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts. For what we leave behind us is a part of ourselves, so we must die to one life before we can enter another. Change alone is unending, perpetual, immortal. Change brings opportunity and in all things is sweet. Change is inevitable – (except from vending machines).

Change is hard work. People want things to be better. Christians are not to merely endure change, nor even to profit by it, but to cause it. Everyone thinks of changing the world, but no one thinks of changing himself. So why not start the journey of making the shift in you, one day at a time.

God grant me the peace to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference.
